So, just what is YanCEyWare?  The simple answer:  A hobby which has taken on a life of it's own.

I suppose YanCEyWare had it's first beginnings when I purchased a Compaq iPaq 3650 Pocket PC device back in June of 2000.  The iPaq was a revolutionary handheld device, however, when it was first released it used a new Pocket PC Operating System from Microsoft and a new StrongArm CPU from Intel...which meant there really weren't that many applications for this great little device.  Being a software developer by profession, I decided to see what I could do to remedy that situation.  As such, I started development of a few games in my free time, which eventually resulted in Sichuan Mahjong and Nanching Mahjong.   When I subsequently  decided to distribute these games over the internet, I figured I needed a name other than just my own with which to brand my games. The name I came up with was YanCEyWare. The "CE" is a reference to the Microsoft Windows CE kernel that the Pocket PC Operating System is based on, and in case you haven't figured it out already, Yancey is my last name.

In the years that followed my initial game releases, I've added Tangrams to the YanCEyWare game portfolio, and followed that up in 2002 with the release of YanCEyWare Reader, which included the Standard Works of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the time of it's release.  My wife likes to joke that the reason I put so much time and effort into developing and maintaining YanCEyWare Reader is so that I'd have an excuse to take my Pocket PC to church with me.

I do my best to support all of the software I have created.  However, YanCEyWare is not my profession, it is my hobby.  I have a career on-the-side that puts food on the table, as well as family, church, and community responsibilities to attend to.  As such, the time I can spend on YanCEyWare related activities is limited by the amount of spare time I have available.  However, I think you'll find very good support for the YanCEyWare products over in the YanCEyWare Support Forum.

Here's a little more information about me and my family:

My name is Bryce Yancey. I'm a Software Engineer with 11 years experience in Telecommunications and Wireless Networking Infrastructure.  I'm currently employed by the CDMA Systems Division of Ericsson Wireless Communications, located in Boulder Colorado.

My wife, Heather has a full time job taking care of our 3 wonderful boys, Christopher, Jared and Ryan.  Before the kids came along, Heather worked as a Dental Assistant for 3 years.  In her spare time she enjoys working on a wide variety of crafts.

Christopher is an energetic 8 year old.  Christopher is a chip-off-the-old block and really takes after dad when it comes to his interests.  He enjoys working with computers, and playing with his friends.

Jared is an active 6 year old.  While Jared also enjoys computers, he takes after Mom in the hobby department.  He enjoys crafts, including coloring and painting.

Our baby, Ryan, isn't a baby anymore.  He's going on 3 years old.  Ryan is our athlete.   He loves playing  ball, any kind of ball will do.   If it's got  a ball in the name or a ball in the game, he wants to play.  You've got to hold him back to keep him from running onto the court while his older brothers are playing with their YMCA teams.
